Need for Quality Skate SharpeningBeing a family that enjoys ice sports in Port Perry, we quickly realized the limitation faced when wanting to have your skates sharpened. The only real option was to travel out of town to a professional skate shop.
We've decided to bring professional skate sharpening to Port Perry and the surrounding areas. We know that families today are very busy and do not have a lot of extra time for things like skate sharpening. We inspect every pair of skates that come through are door for bent blades and any blade damage. We correct and every pair leave perfect with level edges. All of our sharpening is done on a state of the art Blackstone three head professional skate sharpener. |

Understanding Traditional Skate SharpeningTraditional sharpening uses a grinding stone to create a groove or hollow between the edges of the blade. The depth of this hollow determines the performance of the skate and is a matter of individual preference.
Simply put, the deeper the hollow, the more the blade digs into the ice. This creates “bite” but the trade off is that it decreases the ease of your glide. So you basically have to choose between gliding speed and grip. |
